Vladimir Putin ‘not buying’ Marbella – La Zagaleta home

RUSSIAN Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, is not planning to buy a property in Marbella, Benhavis or anywhere else on the Costa del Sol.

This was revealed exclusively to EWN by the Prime Minister’s press office which rubbished widespread reports in the Spanish and at least one local English language newspaper.

Citing Spanish gossip magazine Vanitatis, these reports claimed Putin was ‘keen to snap up’ a mansion in La Zagaleta, Benhavis, described as ‘Europe’s most exclusive residential development’, according to lazagaleta.com.

Several reports said Putin was convinced to buy a property in La Zagaleta by former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov who lives in the urbanization.

An official from Putin’s press office laughed off the reports, and revealed EWN was the first to ask them if the story was accurate.

Creation of the IKEA forest at Arboretum Marbella

ONE hundred and twenty people planted trees to create the first Ikea Family Forest in Arboretum Marbella.

All the participants received a ‘Friend of the IKEA Forest’ card which includes the GPS co-ordinates of the trees that they planted so they can find them in years to come.

This event took place within the campaign “Create your IKEA FAMILY forest” which was launched in May 2011.

This initiative donates 0.10€ to the Foundation + árboles every time that a member uses their Ikea Family card, funding the creation of forests throughout the Iberian Penisula.

Belly Dancing

If you haven’t tried it yet – you must. Put it down in your diary as one of those ‘must have a go at that’.

It was a lot more athletic than I imagined. A cross between yoga, martial-arts and dance, and I now have aches in places Ididn’t know I had places. The teacher was called Inma, and she is very thorough when it comes to techniques and also explained the ethos behind Belly Dancing.

The classes are held at the new studios of Niko Valiente and his team of fabulous dance instructors and performers. Although not exactly in Elviria, and thought they were worthy of a mention. Niko’s partner is Marisa, who works in Elviria and between they hold the following dance titles -

They do all sorts of dance styles and now includes classes for children. For more information visit www.NikoValiente.com

Golf Society

Elviria and the Costa del Sol are often referred to as the Costa del Golf, and its not surprising with concentrations of top quality golf courses nearing the 40′s and fabulous weather almost all year round; it’s an idyllic setting. Popular with European golfers for many years the area has become better known farther afield due to the 1997 Ryder Cup held at Valderrama. The demand is so great that many new courses are being developed and in the more popular courses rounds need to be booked months in advance.

The Extremely Serious Golf Society (ESGS) is a group of serious golfers in Elviria, who guess what? – are serious about golf.

If you are golfing alone in the Elviria and would rather enjoy a few holes with some new friends then give Mark a call on 0034 651 554 211

If you need some help with your swing, then what about some private coaching? For information on this contact the Adam Freeman Golf Academy 0034 656 321 139

Home Shopping Mercadona Style

Home Shopping Mercadona Style
Did you know that Mercadona will do a home delivery of your shopping? You can either go in and shop yourself, or order online. The other day I tried the first option and have to say was suitably impressed. As usual here in Spain, it wasn´t without its complications to start with, but once I got cracking its was OK.
The cost is 4.21€ – why such a strange amount I don´t know – but actually if you have a trolley load it costs more, as they end up keeping your trolley and the euro in it!
Basically the process is as follows
1. Shop till you drop
2. Get to check-out and notify till clerk that you require a home delivery = reparto a domicilio
3. Place fridge items in separate bags to freezer items, and all other goods directly in the trolley
4. Once the total of the shop has been calculated and paid for, the till/computer asks what time delivery slot you would like.
NB. If you shop late in the afternoon they do not guarantee you will have it that day, so it may be the next day
5. At this point the till prints copious amounts of paper! Some you fill in with your address and some get attached to the fridge/freezer food bags – and finally one large one for the trolley, which, as I said, they keep and your euro!
The process the first time is not speedy, so have patience. Well at least I think it was because it was the first time, but until I try it again I am not 100% sure.
My delivery slot was somewhere between 6-8pm. At 7.30pm they called me to say they would be there at 8.15.
A little before that Juan David (the delivery man) called me to say he was at the gate. He then unloaded the shopping which was already in special bag lined crates and wheeled them to my front door. Then, very cleverly, the bags are lifted out of the crate and carried straight to my kitchen. I reckon if I had asked he would have even put the shopping away for me. All in all I would give them 9 out of 10 – with the only thing letting them down was the fact they kept my euro!

Food Glorious Food

One thing we are not short of in Elviria are some amazing eating establishments.

The tapas Bar – El Barracon, offers really good quality tapas and drinks at reasonable prices, on the other hand Rosmarino provides an a la carte menu to die for, with a budget to match!

The Beach House location, in the right weather, provides a waters edge location you dream of and the food is varied and generous.

Although not strictly in Elviria, Kudu Bar up the hill in La Mairena offer a wide ranging menu with special 2 for 1 deals on various days of the week.

Have a look at the Directory for the full listing, or check out Best Restaurant Marbella on FaceBook to see any recent reviews
